Information for Authors

Advances in Health Information Science and Practice (AHISP) is the scholarly, peer-reviewed research journal of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Our mission is to advance health information practices, education, and research, as well as encourage interdisciplinary collaboration between health information professionals and other disciplines.

Until 2025, AHISP was known as Perspectives in Health Information Management (PHIM). The journal's title was updated to better reflect the type and scope of content we publish and to reinforce our commitment to showcasing cutting-edge research, innovative methodologies, effective education, and impactful practices that shape the future of health information science.

All articles submitted to AHISP should have a clear connection to the mission statement. AHISP does not accept simultaneous submissions; manuscripts should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts submitted for consideration to us should not have been published (in full or in part) either in print or online.

All content is indexed in PubMed Central, the National Institutes of Health’s digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature. The archives of both AHISP and Perspectives will be connected in PubMed Central. The complete PHIM archive on PubMed Central is available here

As of 2024, AHISP is published twice per year in an online-only format.
